perzine newsletter | march 2020

hey y'all, i hope everyone is hanging in there in these weird and trying times. march has been an absolute rollercoaster. i've been trying to take it one moment at a time. i've been laid off from my day job, and frankly it's a relief, because i'm a germaphobe with an anxiety disorder and being in public is bottom of my list right now. i'm a homebody and home is where i prefer to stay. my garden is thankful.

★ how i've been coping

- embracing uncertainty & trying to focus on caring for myself in the present
- if i gotta think about the future, i focus on all of the fun things i will do when this passes
- making space to grieve altered plans and be bummed without self-judgement
- letting go of all pressure on myself to be productive during this time
- avoiding as many stressors as humanly possible to avoid worsening my present anxiety
- implementing very strict phone/social media boundaries
- s t r e t c h i n g & taking some deep breaths regularly
- making a concerted effort to get decent sleep
- pacing around my yard for some part of each day
- checking in with friends/family when i have the energy
- going down bandcamp & youtube rabbit roles
- watching funny/light tv & movies

i've been watching santa clarita diet, adventure time, wet hot american summer and related shows, john mulaney's kid gorgeous at radio city comedy special (more i'm surely forgetting). podcasts i've been listening to include: back to the island (a ridiculous podcast about the tv show lost, by jeff rosenstock and chris faren), criminal with phoebe judge, my favorite murder and multiamory. what about y'all? i've been watching videos of terror pigeon live on youtube and stumbled upon a little documentary someone made on diy music in olympia. typically, i found myself in the footage 2 or 3 seperate times. i feel like i've taken going to shows for granted, i might even go to some that start past 8pm when this is all over.

★ music i'm stuck on

reply for links if you're having a hard time finding any of these, or you wanna send me recs!
- delicate by hello shark (specifically new car)
- demonstrating visible difference of height by babehoven (& sleep, & solemnis)
- s/t by 22 degree halo (& s/t by teen spaceship, their predecessor- both found on sleeper records bandcamp)
- are you looking (single) by cave people (& albums sinning tree & older, & the sheryl crow cover on the album salt)
- swell 16/18 by surfer rosie
- book of the dead on sale, how many blankets are in the world, & we're all just beads on the same string (all singles) by saintseneca

- i've also been poking around the 5432fun! website, if you need new music, check out the radio tab for a steady supply of rad diy bands

★ tender perennial

welp, recording is on hold indefinitely, and so is the tour i was scheming for fall. here's a video of me covering the song "big game" by hello shark.

★ do diy

andy waldron and i have put together an ad hoc bulletin board via dodiy.org that lists live stream gigs, diy space fundraising efforts, collaborations, compilations, ways to pass the time, etc. it seemed pertinent to shift focus, since no one is touring anytime soon. there's a form on the page where you can submit your thing, or you can tag @dodiynews on social media when you see something that fits the bill. i'm hoping this really takes off. andy has been doing the majority of the work, please give him something to do so that he doesn't blow through all his puzzles right away!

★ zine preorder

wanderer issue 6 has been done for a couple weeks now, but it's not in anyone's hands yet, and that feels super weird. i'm considering doing a live stream reading of it. there's a preorder for it here, which i plan to close soon. you can get a free 5x7 print of your choice from the zine with your order there. i want folks who can't afford it to be able to get this zine in their hands too, and i'll share news about that once i get out from under the huge stack of them that i need to bind for the preorder, pals, etsy and antiquated future distro (p.s. antiquated future is offering free zine care packages to folks who don't have the funds right now).

★ take care

please be kind to yourselves. big shout out to all my aries buds who are having weird birthdays this year, i cherish y'all. til next month <3
