i hope everyone is hanging in there, it’s uh, pretty rough out there rn. i am taking july very slowly over here. still in a bit of a slump, still recovering from burnout. still spending a lot of time in the garden. of all my various privileges, having central air feels close to the top of the list this month.

here’s your monthly reminder to do a lil something for palestine, like perhaps sharing or donating to crips for esims for gaza (you’ll also be celebrating disability pride month a little bit!).

i am feeling some kinda way about disability this month. i’ve felt sort of ~disabled lite~ since the car accident that almost killed me 15 years ago, but i’ve been hesitant to call myself disabled. my experience with being bedbound and confined to a wheelchair for a time definitely made me pay more attention to accessibility in my organizing. the past couple years in particular, i’ve been dealing with chronic pain and some pretty wild fatigue. i can’t do certain things i used to do. some things i can do, but i pay a price for them later. all of a sudden i’m taking my own experience into account re: accessibility at venues. this is all to say that i’ve mostly felt “not disabled enough” to call myself disabled. but i don’t think i’m having an ~able-bodied experience~ lol.

disability justice is a major blindspot for leftists for some reason. maybe due to being so preoccupied by autonomy that they forget that interdependence is also important? idk. in any case, i’d encourage you to read up on disability justice this month.

painting the lil free zine library has been a very grounding process? there are a couple finishing touches to do before we begin the convoluted installation process (i.e. planting the zine library on a post in a bucket full of cement, and then planting that in a raised bed, which we will also plant flowers in).

✹ vacation ✹

i will be out of town july 20th-24th and i will be out of the office a couple days on either side of that. the shop will be open and orders will ship on the 27th or 29th. i am trying to submerge my body in some water!!! i am also very excited to IRL hang with fellow covid cautious diy music lifer pals, the folks behind bitter half booking in corvallis. lord knows i need this type of community rn.

i have no upcoming events for craft or diy at this time! there is a chance i will vend at tacoma zine fest in august. there is a second home gig on july 20th at new moon, but i will be outta town.

below is a photo from the pigeon pit show at abc house last month. mask bloc came and tabled zines and masks. we almost 100% mask compliance in the venue as a result, and that was pretty dope.

✹ fucking hurray ✹

• i got a prescription for T! i opted for gel because i am a baby. still, i feel Extremely Powerful when i smear on the gender goo (i still use they/them pronouns btw)!

• raspberry season: the black raspberries we planted last year are finally producing and the taste is so nostalgic for me! i used to pick them in the woods around my house as a kid

• garden in general! hummingbirds are now visiting my scarlet runner bean blossoms

• had a very small masked yard hang recently at my house and it was really nice, other than it being like 90 degrees

• repotted my dragon tree after meaning to for,,,3 years?

• naps…! i need one right now!
