perzine newsletter | july 2022
hey y'all, i hope you're hanging in there. i can't believe july is basically over. what a weirdass summer we're having here in the pnw. it was cold and pissing rain forever, then we had a week of normal temps before this god awful heatwave hit. i'm a hot grumpy baby, how are you?
✷ v a c a t i o n ✷
i will be out of town (again!) august 9th-14th for a bday trip with my partner coby. etsy will be on vacation (please don't buy from there anyway!) and orders placed on my website during that time won't ship til after the 15th. i probably won't have service or internet during that trip which i am kinda looking forward to and also kinda terrified by lol.
the vacation i took with my partner kyle last month was kind of a mixed bag, but i'm glad we got away for a bit. manzanita was really cute, lincoln city was ehh, the oregon coast is beautiful, and it wasn't clear to me just how exhausted i was until i stepped away. i napped in a lot of new and interesting places!
✷ zine news / patreon ✷
both of my new mini zines have been sent off to patrons and are now available in my shop. wanderer 8 is finished!!! i'm juggling a million things right now and my printer is being an asshole in this heat, but i think they'll be going out to patrons by the end of august at the latest (and they'll be in my shop right after they go out). i've decided to offer hand-bound copies to patrons only for this one, shop copies will be stapled. it's a new thing i'm trying to make my life easier and make patreon a lil more special. also, from here on out, i'm allowing 1 dollar tier patrons access to new digital zines in the archive! woo!
in other exciting news, pocket books, a new feminist book store in my hometown of lancaster, pa is now carrying my how to support your non-binary family member zine. lancaster county (where i'm actually from) is a very conservative place, and while the city is much less so, the social climate is very different from where i live now. olympia is a pretty great place to be trans. lancaster, not so much. i'm always rooting for my hometown, and i'm grateful to my friends who still live there for constantly nudging it in the right direction. but suffice to say i'm glad my zine is now floating around there where it can hopefully make a big impact in somebody's life.
and last but certainly not least, my lakes aren't always blue mini zine might appear in a judd apatow movie? i got a request for it to be used as set dressing and i signed a release, so we'll see!
✷ punk rock flea market ✷
naomi & i are at it again! vendor registration for the next punk rock flea market is now open! it will be held from 11-4 at pressing on fitness on saturday, august 27th. more info at olypunkrockfleamarket.com.
✷ do diy ✷
i am currently in the process of transferring dodiy.org to my own hosting, i'm 2/3 of the way done (i say 'i' but coby did all the work!). there hopefully shouldn't be any interruptions to the site at this point, the domain is the last thing i need to scoot over. this switch will hopefully result in more frequent updates, since my helper, andy, will get a shiny new official email address and can help me contact folks! i got a lot of spring cleaning done this month.
✷ sale! ✷
use the code HOTAF in my shop to get 15% off now thru august 6th. because i haven't had a sale in a while.
✷ fucking hurray ✷
✷ i finished up a bunch of lingering projects on my plate and felt a brief sense of relief!
✷ i finally got to see lake play live!
✷ wanderer 8 is doneeeee
✷ the heatwave is supposed to be over next week!
✷ i scheduled my next haircut with a nonbinary barber who will hopefully understand my masculine urge to not have a bunch of weird products sprayed in my hair
✷ i just now made a therapy appointment because i've been feeling unhinged lately and it's definitely time!
✷ thimble berries are ripe! and my garden recently produced a few tomatoes & cucumbers despite it being such a weird garden year
✷ i get to see dogbreth play next month!
thanks for reading! august is gonna be BUSY, pray for me! til next time.
love,
alyssa
