greetings!

if you're receiving this newsletter, it's because you either signed up for it on my website, or joined my bandcamp mailing list. i'm gonna try to share special shit with y'all, before the rest of the internet gets to hear about it. ★ please excuse me ★ while i get the hang of this editor. here's some news!

zines ★

i am out of pretty much everything right now, and i don't really plan to restock any time soon. maybe it's my saturn return, or perhaps my impending 30th birthday, but i've grown tired of my usual way of doing things. i've decided i am no longer stocking old zines simply because they sell (though i may make updated versions someday). right now i'm working on the 6th issue of my wanderer perzine, plus a mini photo zine documenting anarchist graffiti in my neighborhood. i have something absurd like 6,000+ words for wanderer issue 6, but haven't laid it out or drawn anything for it yet. this issue will focus on quitting drinking, burn out, fresh starts, having the rug ripped out from under you, therapy, diy music, friendship, and a lot of other stuff. i'm honestly sort of terrified to make this issue. a lot has changed. i would like to get in the habit of oversharing in person and in zines rather than on social media. 2020 goals.

open no mic ★

save the date! the next seasonal, sober open no mic will be held on saturday, february 1st at the secret garden. if you're not familiar, i've been hosting an open mic with no microphone since november of 2018. it starts at 7pm, there's usually a hot vegan meal, and i collect donations for a local org every time (no one turned away for lack of funds). this time around, i'm collecting donations for just housing. stay in the loop about the open no mic and see photos from past and future at @tenderperennialoly.

music ★

i recorded some tender perennial songs this month with the generous help of my friend trick. i have a couple more sessions to go, and i'm trying not to hate my songs, but it's difficult! i recently discovered this album by hello shark and it effectively ruined my life (if you wanna hear what i wish i sounded like, there you go). i'm planning on putting together a tape, which i will likely self-release and then take on a little tour in the fall (unless someone offers to put it out). fingers crossed that it all happens according to my imagined timeline. here's a rough mix of one of the songs we recorded, that no one has heard yet except y'all (and trick and i).

do diy ★

i've officially been in charge of dodiy.org for a year-ish, and i added 92 new spaces in 2019! as of the end of 2019, there were 337 total spaces on the site. i also added a few new countries, and reached my first patreon goal of $100 per month. if you'd like to support via patreon, you get a little gift for pledging as low as $1 a month, and everything helps! i had big plans to create a diy music zine featuring interviews with diy lifers, diy space spotlights, how-to guides, scene reports, music reviews and guest columns BUT i can't find anyone to collaborate on the behind-the-scenes work of it. if that's you, hit me up! this idea has a lot of potential, and is potentially a lot of work (ain't that my life, haha).

thank you

for reading and caring about what i'm up to! feedback is always welcome. i will try to make this newsletter worth yr while with little tidbits that aren't shared anywhere else.
