✷ greetings ✷

hey y'all! it is suddenly august, and in the pnw that means all the grass is dead af and i am constantly walking into a spider web, even in open expanses where that seems impossible! i hope everyone is having a nice summer. i'll get right to it! lots of events coming up!

✷ upcoming events ✷

saturday, august 26th: i'll be tabling bad girl makeover at the olympia armory from 12-5pm. i would love it if you stopped by to say hello (preferably while wearing a mask)! i'm making some cute lil notebooks for this. i'm excited but nervous about this one because neither of my usual helpers will be around and i am like, lightly disabled? and moving/setting up a big wooden table is gonna hurt me! i hope tables are pre-set up this time but if not uhh.. hopefully a kind stranger will take pity on me and help! pls factor disabled people into your event planning!

sunday, september 10th: say hello to me at olympia zine fest, 11-4pm outside behind the olympia library! i have never had a bad oly zine fest, very stoked to have a few new zines for this one. it's gonna be like a block party, but make it zines!

saturday, september 16th: open no mic! very low-key, amateurs encouraged, you can totally attend without performing. at the secret garden in the yard, prolly 6 or 7pm, hmu for my address if you wanna come.

friday september 22nd: benefit show for SHOW (second home oly wa) at le voyeur! 7pm $10 notaflof (no one turned away for lack of funds). i'm kind of booking this and i haven't booked a show since like 2014????

sunday, october 22nd: oly punk rock flea market at the olympia armory, 12-4. sign ups are OPEN for this and filling up fast! we still have some free spots left for BIPOC too!

honorable mention: october 28th
i applied to portland zine symposium this year, so if i get in, i'll be there!

✷ report back ✷

july was kind of bonkers but in the best way! the antiquated future zine reading was very fun, all the readers were excellent! if you haven't checked out antiquated future's offerings before, they're more than worth your time!

our showing of clueless at abc house to raise a lil $ for the punk rock flea market was pretty magical. the crowd seemed split between people who had never seen the movie and people who knew every word. we pinned a sheet to the roof of the chicken coop for the projector and sat under the ancient, sprawling black walnut tree and ate snacks. 10/10, would do again except in spring so the sun sets earlier! lol

✷ zine news ✷

wanderer 9 and fruit alley mini zine are headed to digital and physical subscription patrons! they'll both be added to my shop for the general public shortly. family recipes is DONE and i am gonna test print soon. i will eventually be doing a pre-order for that zine cuz it's huge. i'm opening up a submission call soon for a zine about your favorite defunct diy music venues (think of it as a celebration of life). feel free to reply if you want more info!

✷ some songs ✷

it's been a banner month for music! i decided to just link to a list of what i've been listening to this month.

✷ SHOW (second home oly wa) ✷

we will have some kind of presence at oly punk rock flea market i think! i'm 27 pages deep into an educational pdf from the secretary of state about becoming a nonprofit. so far, there's at least 3 pages trying to dissuade you from becoming a nonprofit. my other favorite snippets include, "build a gratitude practice into your meetings" and "go on an annual retreat." secretary of state says treat yo self.

my trip to boston was so, so good. staying with john was very chill and i am not a chill traveler lol. i also fell in love with his cat, deeto, and i don't know how i'll recover. i saw a lot of boston (cool city! terrifying driving!) and also we went to vermont for part of the visit. i found out they call soft serve "creamies" there, i subsequently ate a lot of "creamies." i got to stay in an insane collage of a building called the dimetrodon. it was built in the 70s before vermont had building codes by a group of punk as fuck architects who just started to build shit without any drawings. the building was an early experiment in co-housing, the units are all separate but they empty out onto a big communal porch, and everybody gets a garden plot. i was allowed into one unit to get up onto a balcony porch spot and had to go through a secret bookcase door. if you think that's extremely fucking cool, there's gonna be a documentary about prickly mountain and the design/build movement, this trailer is super interesting.

✷ fucking hooray ✷

✷ you really can't beat garden tomatoes!
✷ i can't believe how many great gigs i've had the privilege to attend lately!
✷ i flew by myself to a place i've never been and got to see my friendddd!
✷ i love planning and scheming with friends!
✷ everything is just pretty fucking good right now tbh!

thanks for reading! <3

love,
alyssa
