Brace yourself for the corporate journalism wave - there's a lot going on here if you're in the "running your mouth" business like I am. Much of the cash in the analyst world is from marketers at vendors wanting "content" - wanting analysts to support their story, either directly or indirectly. It's kind of stupid as this story stops short of pointing out: why not tell your own story? The important divide to watch is how valuable authentic commentary is. Notice I didn't say "independent." It's important that you trust the people you're listening to (like me, hopefully). I spend a lot of time maintaining an independent voice and opinion and it's not easy or comforting, but I hope the stories I end up telling aren't bull-shit.

Meet the New Enterprise Customer, He’s a Lot Like the Old Enterprise Customer - this pairs oddly good with the qz.com story. The most important point in this point - for you startup, ramen eatin' youngin's - is the "work to live" point. You have to understand how vastly different the "enterprise buyer" is from the typical "tech world" worker. They care about things more important than computers and whether their HTML will validate.

Anthony Bourdain Has Become The Future Of Cable News, And He Couldn't Care Less - Another fine pairing to the Quartz piece: (a.) surely you know that this story is the result of a PR person pitching and arranging the idea to help launch Bourdain's new CNN show? (b.) and yet, it's a good, useful story. I started reading his first book after reading this. It's pretty good so far. I'm taking notes on the structure and format. Key insight so far: there is no story in his book, just characters and funny happenings. Just like a good Coen brothers movie. Cf. MacGuffin or the Roderickian "duck."
