Recent Publications from the PIN Community

Using height-adjusted stunting prevalence will fail disadvantaged children worldwide - The Lancet Global Health

In their Comment (February, 2022), S V Subramanian and colleagues challenge the validity of using the prevalence of child stunting to monitor and evaluate nutrition policies. Their argument is based on a fundamental misunderstanding of the 2006 WHO growth standards and how to appropriately use and interpret stunting. The authors espouse a dangerous and unethical position.

A randomized trial of iron- and zinc-biofortified pearl millet-based complementary feeding in children aged 12 to 18 months living in urban slums - ScienceDirect

We conducted a randomized controlled trial of FeZnPM among 223 children aged 12–18 months who were not severely anemic at baseline (hemoglobin ≥9.0 g/dL). Children were randomized to receive either FeZnPM or conventional non-biofortified pearl millet (CPM) daily for 9 months.

Review of the Impact Pathways of Biofortified Foods and Food Products - PubMed

Biofortification is the process of increasing the concentrations and/or bioavailability of micronutrients in staple crops and has the potential to mitigate micronutrient deficiencies globally. Efficacy trials have demonstrated benefits of consuming biofortified crops (BFCs); and in this paper, we report on the results of a systematic review of biofortified crops effectiveness in real-world settings.

What works to protect, promote and support breastfeeding on a large scale: A review of reviews - PubMed

The present study updates the evidence base since 2016 using a review of reviews approach. Searches were implemented using the Epistomenikos database. One hundred and fifteen reviews of interventions were identified and assessed for quality and risk of bias.

Protein-rich food intake and risk of spontaneous abortion: a prospective cohort study - PubMed

Diet quality is increasingly recognized as important for human reproductive capacity. We studied the association between intake of protein-rich foods and risk of spontaneous abortion (SAB). During 2013-2020, we recruited pregnancy planners from the United States and Canada (Pregnancy Study Online; PRESTO) and Denmark (SnartForaeldre.dk; SF).
