Obituary: Professor Don McCormick, PhD

We are sharing the sad news of the passing of Donald Bruce McCormick, PhD, on 4/21/2022 at the age of 89. Dr. McCormick was one of the original faculty of the Division of Nutritional Sciences when it was formed. He came to Cornell as an assistant professor and became the Liberty Hyde Bailey Professor in the School of Nutrition. Later, he left Cornell to head Emory University's department of Biochemistry. He devoted his life to advancing our understanding of the role of vitamins in nutrition in his long and distinguished career.
Dr. McCormick is survived by his wife, Jean, daughter, Sue (Cliff) in FL, sons Don (Kristen) in NH, and Allen in WA.

The overlooked paradox of the coexistence of overweight/obesity and anemia during pregnancy
In this review we describe the current evidence on prevalence rates, risk factors, and effects for mother and offspring regarding coexistence of overweight/obesity and anaemia in pregnant women based on a systematic literature search. We also highlight research gaps and suggest avenues for future research.
The study aimed to assess violations of the International BMS Code and the national 'Breast-milk Substitutes, Infant Foods, Commercially Manufactured Complementary Foods and the Accessories Thereof (Regulation of Marketing) Act, 2013' of Bangladesh in commercial settings (retail outlets and media) in Bangladesh, for different types of milk, bottles, and teats using a standardized Network for Global Monitoring and Support for Implementation of the Code and Subsequent relevant World Health Assembly Resolutions (NetCode) protocol.
This study aimed to identify dietary intake and food sources of added sugars in the home, school, and neighborhood environments of Costa Rican adolescents. Dietary intake of added sugars was determined using 3-day food records in a cross-sectional study of 818 adolescents aged 12 to 19 and enrolled in rural and urban schools in the province of San José.
