Dale E. Bauman Lecture 2024
A highlight of the year was the Dale E. Bauman Lecture delivered by Andrew Bremer, Director of the NIH Office of Nutrition Research, titled “Nutrition is Everyone’s Business.” In his presentation, co-sponsored by the Division of Nutritional Sciences, Department of Animal Science and Department of Food Science along with the Joan Klein Jacobs Center for Precision Nutrition and Health at Cornell, Dr. Bremer discussed the role of nutrition in public health and a vision for the future of the field to address urgent global challenges. Notable News from 2024
We share tributes to two giants in the field of nutrition and global health, Dr. Noel Solomons, and Dr. Richard Cash. These articles remember their dedication to their work and the huge impact they had on global health.
The Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell celebrated their 50th Anniversary, with a large cohort of PIN alumni, faculty and trainees attending Nutrition 2024 in Chicago to share their work and celebrate this huge milestone. Our College of Human Ecology is also currently celebrating its 100th year.
The American Society of Nutrition and Cornell University honored Dr. Malden Nesheim, founding Director of the Division of Nutritional Sciences and Professor Emeritus at Cornell University and announced the Malden Nesheim Nutrition Landscape Award to commence in 2025.
In addition, Professor Emeritus Soekirman, Cornell alum and founder of the Indonesian Nutrition Foundation for Food Fortification (KFI) was recently recognized for his continued dedication to advancing nutrition policy and social change in Indonesia.
We also wanted to share our news on the technology transfer of the AnemiaPhone technology for assessing iron deficiency at the point of care to the government of India on November 7th for integration into its programs for anemia, women’s health, and maternal and child health; key biofortification successes; and onboarding the inaugural cohort of T32 trainees to be trained in artificial intelligence and precision nutrition.
