Remembering Dr. Noel W. Solomons
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Noel Solomons, a giant in the field of international nutrition. Read the obituary in Prensa Libre and the tribute by Saskia Osendarp, Executive Director, Micronutrient Forum.
My first interaction with Dr. Solomons was about 18 years ago when I had a chance to contribute a manuscript on HIV and breastfeeding to a special issue that he was editing - it was one of my first academic publications. This was supposed to come full circle as Noel was planning to contribute a perspective on precision nutrition to a special issue that I am editing now. Some of my favorite readings about Noel are this bio and his editorials in Food and Nutrition Bulletin - https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0379572117709147 and https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0379572119863534. As Dr. Lynnette Neufeld, Director, Food and Nutrition Division of FAO, said, “Noel’s unwavering commitment to nutrition and to capacity development has had a lasting impact on many of us in the field. His constant presence and challenging questions will be sorely missed.”
