Small Talk Music Video
Hi friends!
I just released a music video for the title track of my album, "Small Talk." You can watch it here!
It was directed, shot, and edited by Simone Hile-Bassett, and stars myself and Drew Demora. Queer music video made by queer people for the last day of pride month! (Depicting an uncommunicative situationship, but hey, queer folks need chaotic representation too)
The cardboard weatherheads you can see in the preview were modeled after this sketch from my journal from 2018. This was my first idea for the Small Talk album cover when I first started conceptualizing it! Super super fun to see the weatherheads come to life.
I made a mockup design for the cloud head with paper and tape, and Kailey Everhart took over and cut out the cardboard shapes and painted the front panels. From there it was a bunch of chaotic hot gluing.
The blue and white projections over parts of the video were programmed by Simone. How cool is that? Women in stem <3
The day of the shoot was so much fun. Persephone Katabasis did hair, makeup, and costume design, we set up a fake bedroom in a library studio using two air mattresses, and we shot the performance sequences under the weather projections. I had to stand on top of a trolley in scenes with Drew cause they're so much taller than me lol. All in all, so much fun.
I hope you enjoy!
xoxo,
Copeland James
