The Long Way Round

Doctor Who had been away from television for seventeen months when the first episode of The Trial of a Time Lord was transmitted on 6th September 1986. It was sandwiched between the debut of Ronald Rat The Series and the second season celebrity special premiere of Telly Addicts, which would revert to a non-celebrity weeknight format in a few days time. The evening was rounded out with the Paul Daniels-presented gameshow Every Second Counts, the first ever episode of Casualty, and comedy sketches from Russ Abbot.
