The Long Way Round

When John Nathan-Turner took over Doctor Who in 1980, he had changes he wanted to make. One was getting rid of robot dog K9, a fixture in the series since 1977. JNT, as the producer liked to be known, thought the triumvirate of Tom Baker’s Doctor, Lalla Ward’s Romana, and K9 near-invincible, and that breaking it up would add jeopardy to the Doctor’s adventures.
