Breakup with Big Tech: Google Gemini outside of workspace

This week I’ve got a follow up from last week’s post on disabling Google Gemini in Gmail and workspace. This is a quick instruction on how to update your "my activity" settings for Google Gemini directly.

  1. Go to https://myactivity.google.com/product/gemini?otzr=1

  2. Find the "Gemini Apps Activity" section of the page.

  3. Click the "turn off" button to the right of it.

You'll be greeted by a pop up which expands on the implications of turning off the activity, which means that your chats with Gemini will not be reviewed.

Turning off this feature may limit some uses of Gemini if you are a user. I can't really speak to how that will change the experience of using it; I am turning off this setting in case I'm sent a Gemini link and to prove whatever small point I can through Google's account surveillance. As someone who works in tech, I can say that a message is sent when you do this.

This is also a great opportunity to review https://myactivity.google.com for your Google account(s) in general; I was surprised by some of the settings there and turned off additional tracking at the web level as well.
