New Scholarly Discord Server: Rhetoric & History
New Scholarly Discord Server: Rhetoric & History
Timothy Barr, ti.barr@northeastern.edu
The pandemic has put into relief the many forms of support, formal and informal, that are important for scholars at every stage of their career. Much of this emphasis has unfortunately come for people through the loss of support they once had. However, having so much of our work and social lives being moved online also suggests opportunities for renewing communities of collegial association that do not require the traditional barriers of expense, travel, career status, or publication record to access.
Rhetoric & History is a new Discord server for any scholars interested in the intersection of rhetorical studies and history. It is designed to be a space for collegiality, sharing resources and ideas, and extending our connections with fellow scholars in a more informal setting. To join, simply follow this invite link:

This Discord server has no institutional affiliation and is free to join. The software can be run from a browser, through the desktop app, or on a smartphone. If you are interested in such a space but are unfamiliar with how to use Discord, I am happy to email with you and give you some pointers on using this free software.
I look forward to the growth of our scholarly community and the deepening of our connections
