Better late than never, am I right?!. I changed the name to “Accessibility and Lobstah Rolls”, that title made more sense. Enough chit-chat, let’s get to it!
Still no new recordings I have two slots to fill and guests have been invited. Getting the latest one for August ready to go soon. Hopefully by today. I’ll announce the episode release through the Front End Nerdery Twitter account when everything has been published.
I’m working on forming a talk around Deceptive Patterns and the FAST framework, which is something I have been working on now for some time with a fantastic group of folks over in the W3C on this. More to come soon as I start getting my thoughts down when the conference schedule lightens up.
I was honored and privileged to speak at Code on the Beach, Beer City Code, and KCDC. Giving my talk on Making Strong Case for Accessibility, and I even gave an extra talk I threw together on the Four Principles of Accessibility (POUR).
Coming up on Tuesday I will be heading to Lousiville, Kentucky for CodePaLOUsa
I have one talk in September at MagnoliaJS and I’ll be in London, England in November for Modern Frontends Live!
I’ll have more info on where I will be headed to speak more as the year progresses.
Ben Myers has a terrific write-up on how to fix low-contrast text
Joe Dolson reminds us there is more work to be done
and from the A11y Project, two terrific articles from Lucia Cerchie on text resizing in iOS and Android and Eric Bailey on using the tabindex attribute
I even finished my article on accessibility testing in Firefox using the Firefox DevTools
Marcy Sutton has a course she has been working on that is up if you’re looking to learn accessibility and I highly recommend people take it. I’m a couple of modules in and it is great.
I’ve been hearing a lot of “We made it through the pandemic.” or “We can go back out and we can be in spaces and places with our friends and we’re almost out of the woods yet.” and frankly it troubles me a bit to hear that because we’re not out of the woods by no means.
Taking the time to mask up and think about your fellow humans is what we should be doing. I have seen too many (and I am guilty of this myself) unmasked people. Say what you will, but the numbers are still there and people are still spreading it at events and people are getting sick.
We all want to be together and sit in a room and listen to speakers give their talks on their chosen topics, let’s make it safe for all of us. Especially in those packed rooms that are standing room only. Also, the disabled community, the people at-risk more than you or I depend on us to help out as well.
Please spread the word about the podcast and the newsletter if you’re so inclined. It’s just my way to keep folks up-to-date on my speaking dates and articles I publish on accessibility and to share some fine links with you on accessibility.
Until next time friend,
— Todd 🦞
