February Faux Pas & Errata

Hey there!

You’re probably thinking, “Wait… didn’t he already send an email out?” Yes. Yes, I did. BUT there is an update that I wanted to send out for some clarification.

Conferences

I’ll be in Atlanta in April, from the 4th through the 6th for DevNexus but I will NOT be giving an Accessibility Auditing workshop! I will be giving my Deceptive Patterns talk instead. I had gotten mixed up and thought I had been selected to do a workshop, so my bad. I am doing a 1-hour session. More info to come when that is available.

February Edition: Late to the Party

Hey there!

Another short one today, not feeling too well and I’ve been down for the count much of this past weekend with migraine headaches. Here we go!

Accessibility

I haven’t been talking a lot in the newsletters about accessibility and that is on me. I am going to make sure I get a section in here to discuss it, I mean it was why I started the newsletter in the first place, and also, the name of the newsletter.

January Edition: Welcome to 2023

Hey there!

I wanted to personally thank each of you that subscribe to the newsletter. I really don’t look at the numbers or the metrics, but I know there are a few of you that subscribe. So thank you. I appreciate you.

2022

I wrote about my 2022 and hope you’ll stay tuned for the hijinx in 2023. There will be plenty more and if I can remember, perhaps some editions will be from the road while I’m out speaking at conferences.

#24 - What Happened?! The June/July Issue

Hey there!

So I skipped the June edition (not by design) and now I’m going to just wrap everything up in this two edition in one newsletter. It’s been a busy couple of months! Work, W3C, San Francisco, Smashing Conference. So let’s get to it!

The Podcast

I’ve not recorded any new episodes as I have plenty of them in the can ready to edit and knock out as I stick with the one episode per month format. The latest episode to be out is my episodes with Rachele DiTullio and Ben Myers. Hope you’ll give them a listen/watch (and season one as well) and subscribe. Lots of accessibility talk!

#23 - May Day! May Day!

Hey there!

A little late (again), but a lot has been going on in my part of the world lately (again). I went to DevNexus in Atlanta in April and spoke about Making a Strong Case for Accessibility. The Smashing Magazine article I turned into a talk.

When I returned home, I tested positive for COVID, so I had avoided it for two-plus years but it finally caught up with me and it wasn’t fun for about 3-4 days of really bad symptoms. Please be safe. I let my guard down and ended up getting it and it is no fun. I’m feeling miles better but still got a cough and fatigue. No fun at all and I’m two weeks removed.

So let’s get to it and let’s get to some good finds I have stumbled across!

#21 - March

Hey There.

This is going to be a short one.

With recent events going on in the world, we’re all tired. Especially those who have been impacted the hardest. At home, wherever you are, and all over the world, like the people of Ukraine.

You can give here and you can also give here

#20 - Hey There! The February Edition

Hello Friend!

2022 is here and so is the newsletter. Let’s do this!

2021 is finally behind us and 2022 is upon us. With 2022 comes a few things I am looking forward to achieving (in no particular order).

  1. Chairing the W3C Error Handling subgroup
  2. A new, part-time position with the Centre for Inclusive Design in Sydney, NSW, Australia
  3. Write an article for A List Apart
  4. At some point, a lead role at the company I work for, WebstaurantStore
  5. Speak at three live conferences (with mask & safety protocols)
  6. 500 YouTube subscribers (more on this below)

#18 - Year in Review

Hello Friend!

2021 What's there to say?

2021 was another year. Honestly, I think 2020 and 2021 were the twins from the movie "The Shining" sometimes, but then again, 2021 was filled with a lot of good things as well. So I really can't say 100% that the last two years were awful. I think I'd rather try and find the redeeming things that the past year has given me.

2021 was a year that gave me a lot of opportunities to grow and learn. It also gave me a couple of opportunities that I thought would never come.

Hello, Friend!

How are you?

So November came and went, huh?

November wrapped up with my application for Invited Expert to the W3C granted, which means I can resume working in the task forces and groups and fill out surveys and a bunch of other group-related things.

#16 - November Edition

Hello, Friend!

How are you?

So October was a busy month for me, now as we swing into November things are going to be less busy but enough about that, I had a couple of talks that took place and went very well. Coming out of October though has cost em and I am paying the price.

This month is going to be a lot shorter for a reason.

#14 - October Already?!

Hello Friend!

How are you?

As we rapidly approach the end of the year, we're getting into October. So that said, I don't have anything spooky or Halloween-related to say because I'm not much of a holiday person, but I hope you and yours (especially with the younger ones) have a happy and safe one.

There is a bit to get into in this edition so let's get into it!
