Building an Online World
Ribbon Cutting : My New Website
Dear Reader,

I am beyond thrilled this morning to share with you my brand new website, a home on the web for all my projects, built with systems and people that understand me, and is ready for you to explore.
It started with my collaboration with Laurel Schwulst - who helped me vision the sections, decide how to organize the website, and build in overlays as pages that act like quilts. Laurel also coined the Today is line at the top which she uses on her own website and others she’s built. Finding Laurel’s work is what set me on a path of wanting to rebuild my website and have it be a world where both my art practices, projects, and teaching could live.
I also want to credit kening zhu whose podcast botanical studies of internet magic inspired me to approach websites as world building.
Next I turned to Jess Herrera - who is my dream collaborator for all the ages. Jess worked so much magic into the design, letting the copy flow and helped me pick images for pages and fixed every bug and guided me in all the right directions. I also worked with Jess to design new business cards, new Common Shapes art, postcards, and my book pre-order launch materials.

It feels amazing to have cohesion between my website and my analog materials, something I haven’t had before.
Finally I turned to Nicole Cloutier - the copywriting poet of my dreams. I knew that my website couldn’t just keep saying - I am Cody I make art and run a writing group and teach classes. While my newsletter has always felt like a strong place to connect and share with readers how I do things, my website has always been very basic.
I love everything Nicole and I did together, she pushed me to talk about myself and my work in ways I never would have done on my own (which was very uncomfortable) and helped me find a way to be able to name that I am both an artist and a facilitator, something I have struggled to find. Another dream collaborator.

There were a few times throughout the process where I wanted to totally give up - and there are a few pages that are still in progress, like quilting and the entire Personal Practice archive. A long form project like this takes a lot of patience, something I often struggle to find. Writing about my work in more of a “business” way was also hard when so much of what I do is push back against business as usual. But Nicole helped me weave together words that felt natural, while still conveying the fact that my services are very much indeed for sale.
I already know that having this container is going to help me be more consistent in my output, more spacious in my creations, and serve even more potential students and clients with copy that actually tells the story of the transformation I provide in classrooms and 1:1 settings, not just naming what I do in a vague way.
It felt special to build this site alongside such strong and brilliant collaborators who understood my vision the whole time, pushed me to my creative edges, challenged my ideas when they simply weren’t as good as theirs, and let me be me!
I hope you enjoy wandering around the archives, the upcoming offerings, the many pages, and little worlds hidden within.
Being off social media and all social platforms has lead me to have a more expansive imagination in terms of how I run a practice based earning container, also known as a business. It has opened up portals of possibility beyond what I could have dreamt for myself when I was actively in social media addiction. What a gift!
I look forward to seeing how this new home on the web leads to consistency, rigor, and collecting fragments along the way.
P.S. If you find a glitch or a typo or a broken link feel free to tell me but please write it out as a small poem, thank you
Paying Attention To :

You can now listen to me on my favorite podcast Off The Grid - the story of permanently deleting my Instagram account, how you have to wait thirty days for it to delete, and how I’m approaching my next book launch without social media. I love talking to Amelia!
And this weekend - to celebrate the return of my own podcast Common Shapes (which Amelia produces!) - we are hosting a FREE welcome back party on Saturday September 20 at 12pm where we will go through the Creative Ideation Portal live, do a Q and A about podcasting, and give away prizes - including Amelia’s new book!

I cannot believe how good this whole album is, I have been listening on repeat while I write.
Jump on the waitlist for The Long Arc - a one day class I am teaching on October 4 about consistency in your practice. What does it mean to have a consistent art practice? When is it ok to give up consistency? Dig in with me - registration opens Wednesday with an early bird bonus
I had the immense pleasure of attending a performance at The Field Center in Vermont last month and I can’t say enough good things about this space for movement research. They are currently building a huge barn for more dance and performance opportunities and fundraising - consider redistributing today. Or better yet - if you have a person in your life who wants to be a major donor in a transformational dance project - tell them to consider The Field Center!
The free week of Landscapes was so fun - we are back at it in the early mornings this week. Secret news - you can try it this week for free too if you’d like, then we go back to a waitlist for a few months.
