Issue 15: Mountains Look Like Hills From Far Away

Mountains Look Like Hills From Far Away
I looked across the landscape of my career and headed towards the hills that I had dreamed of trekking for decades. It turns out they were not hills, but mountains. But, you know me. I'm still climbing. Let's peep at some highlights!
"Gladiatrix" Published in Anodyne
One of my poems was in Anodyne Magazine Volume 2 this spring. I'm proud to say this is the second poem of mine published in a literary magazine and that I am continuing to submit elsewhere for future publication. Anodyne is close to my heart as it is an international FLINTA* health focused magazine. I am honored to be amongst some incredible writers. Check it out!
Writing for The Mary Sue
In the last days of March I got a writing contract that is a lot more my style, at The Mary Sue. It's a geek girl online entertainment publication with lots of opinions and a feminist bent, so I am very happy there. I get to write and pay the bills with that money! It's not full-time but it is enough to pay some bills and that's a wonderful start. Some of my articles so far are:
Creating My Second Poetry Book
I'm still running a crowdfunding campaign to create my second poetry book this spring, and I need your donations to help me do it. I still have to raise a total of $349 in the next few weeks so please back the campaign. Backing my campaign is the only way to get my new poetry book, so if you want to see more of my poems in print please give if you can.

I will be making hand-bound unique print copies for this campaign which is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to get one of these special poetry books. They are each totally designed, written, printed, and bound by me. Each one will have a unique cover. Join me on my campaign to get a copy and see examples.
Thank you so much to everyone who has given so far, it means the world to me that I am able to print these poems because of you!!
Something I Love: Surrounded (2023)

I recently had the absolute pleasure of watching Surrounded, a 2023 Western starring Letitia Wright as Mo Washington. Mo is a Black woman in disguise as a man, and has been hiding her true identity since she joined the Union, fought in the Civil War, and was given freedom papers as a veteran. On her way to claim land in the West, the stagecoach Mo is on is robbed. What happens after is the story of Surrounded.
Mo's experience in the world is life-threatening at nearly every turn; it's the Wild West, which is already dangerous. But when you're a Black woman amongst outlaws and predators galore it feels very different. Wright is an incredible actor and it really shines through in this movie. Her ability to take us on an emotional rollercoaster without a word is stunning. It's absolutely worth the watch.
