π Upcoming Stewardship Day at Baltimore Woods! 5/16 @ 10AM

Feeling frustrated at the world? Recent news making you want to tear your hair out? Why not direct that energy to pulling & removing invasive plant species at Baltimore Woods! πͺ
It's hard to change the whole world, but bit by bit we can make real changes in the world around us π Baltimore Woods offers free trails year-round, as well as various events to bring folks closer to nature, and we're happy to have the opportunity to give back in some small way!
If you're interested, please RSVP at cnyhiking.lgbt/rsvp π More information on meeting location will be provided after RSVP.
π Date: Saturday, May 16th 2026 at 10am
π Event Location: Baltimore Woods Nature Center, 4007 Bishop Hill Rd, Marcellus, NY 13108 (Google Maps Directions)
Carpooling:
If you need help getting to the trail or want to offer a ride, feel free to message us at contact@cnyhiking.lgbt or DM us on Instagram @cnyhiking and weβll do our best to connect folks.
Feel free to instead let us know in the βAdditional Infoβ section of the RSVP, though weβll also need you to provide your contact info for coordination.
Accessibility & Notes:
This work will likely involve removing woody shrubs like honeysuckle and buckthorn that require some basic hand tool use like shovels, loppers, or weed wrenches. While not quite as intensive as trail building, this will be more work than hand-pulling weeds. More information will be provided post-RSVP.
Feel free to shoot us a message if you have any questions!
Hope to hike with you soon! π

Our Last Event - Birding @ Derby Hill Observatory!

We had a great turnout for our first birding hike of the year, thanks to everyone who joined us for a morning stroll around Derby Hill Observatory's North Lookout π¦ We saw so many songbirds and raptors thanks to Derby Hill's prime location for spring migration.
A big thank you to Onondaga Audubon for hosting an amazing 2026 Bird Festival at Derby Hill! And of course, big thanks to the knowledgeable Anna Stunkel for leading our walk and graciously helping with bird IDs and providing fun facts!!
Here are a few birding resources Anna shared that I wanted to make sure to pass along:
The raptor ID guide we used is called Hawks in Flight, by Pete Dunne, Clay Sutton, and David Sibley.Β
