Building Something for My Kids
I've been quiet on other projects because I've been heads down on a new side project: Fine Print Hound.
My kids are getting older. More tech is creeping into their lives. School uses it constantly. Friends have devices. They see us on screens more than they should. We try to limit it at home, but it's everywhere.
I've become more interested in privacy and what companies do with our data. Especially our kids' data. Especially with AI.
I use AI every day. I'm a proponent of it. But there's a lot out there that isn't beneficial, particularly for kids. The terms change constantly. It's hard to keep track of what we're allowing companies to track and use.
Fine Print Hound solves this. You select the sites and services you, your family, or your business use. The system alerts you when terms change, explains the severity, and tells you what it means for you in plain language. AI helps with the analysis, but the monitoring happens automatically.
The system already has hundreds of sites loaded and thousands of snapshots going back to 2012 for some services. I'm adding more every day.
It's not public yet, but there's a waitlist on the home page. I'll share updates here as I get closer to launch. If this sounds useful, check it out and sign up.
Building with Claude Code
What would have taken me weeks or months now takes hours or minutes. Claude Code has been incredible for this project. I've been using it hard over the last few weeks.
I'll share more about the workflow in future newsletters. The speed is remarkable, but the quality is what surprised me. I'm building faster without cutting corners.
This Week on Slightly Caffeinated
We didn't record earlier this week, but we're planning to record tomorrow morning after this newsletter sends. Keep an eye on slightlycaffeinated.fm and subscribe so you don't miss it.
That's it for this week. I've been deep in Fine Print Hound and haven't worked on much else - outside of work. Reply with any thoughts on the project or tools and resources you think I should check out.
