** Community projects
Tech workers climate pledge â When tech speaks, the world listens. This is why a group of CAT members launched a website that allows tech workers to pledge their support for the Global Climate Strike. The goal is to spread the pledge virally, expanding the impact of the Global Climate Strike by drawing press coverage and letting company leaders and senior executives know that tech workers do not intend to stand idly by as the world burns.
Sign the pledge now (https://pledge.climateaction.tech/) and share it with colleagues and peers.
Websites strike too â CAT members have created a website âshutdownâ campaign (https://digital.globalclimatestrike.net/) , asking businesses to display a banner on their sites in the runup to the Global Climate Strike (https://globalclimatestrike.net) . The team includes people from the highly successful 2012 SOPA/PIPA blackout campaign (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/cifamerica/2012/jan/18/sopa-blackout-protest-makes-history) .
We want to get this in front of as many senior execs as possible, to pitch that they should âshutdownâ too. Can you help? Learn more and get involved here (https://digital.globalclimatestrike.net/#website-assets) .
How green is your AWS? â CAT member Chris Adams (https://chrisadams.me.uk/) in collaboration with Franka Schmidt (https://franka.tech/) created an open source tool that allows developers to check how much of their AWS cloud bill goes toward fossil fuels. Itâs called Green Cost Explorer (https://github.com/thegreenwebfoundation/green-cost-explorer) and it can help shift deployment to data centers that are powered by renewables. Check out the project and get involved on Github (https://github.com/thegreenwebfoundation/green-cost-explorer) .

How to declare a climate emergency â A manual was recently published showing businesses the how and why of How to Declare a Climate Emergency (https://medium.com/reinventing-business/how-to-declare-a-climate-emergency-55b912374e2a) . B Lab UK, who published the manual, are a company that certifies business for social and environmental performance. âStripeâ away CO2 from the atmosphere â The online payment processing company Stripe has made a âNegative Emissions Commitmentâ, which means that they will purchase offsets covering more emissions than they produce. Stripe published an article (https://stripe.com/au/blog/negative-emissions-commitment) on their blog explaining the case for why they are doing this in the context of the global climate emergency.
Thatâs all for this week. See you next time!
