Hey CATs!
Hope you’re staying safe this week. We’ve seen a few questions in the slack asking about pensions and savings as a lever for change. As ever, there is the wiki (https://climate-tech.getoutline.com/doc/best-practice-uk-adGJl2YGLU) , but another idea to experiment with is change the law to set new defaults. If you’re in England, there’s an interesting campaign on called Digital Rebellion by Extinction Rebellion UK, to simply call up the Bank of England and politely chat to them about their policies of supporting investing in fossil fuels (https://extinctionrebellion.uk/act-now/campaigns/digital-rebellion/) . You don’t need to be a fan of XR to find the tactics interesting.
If you want to help out others, check out a task on our âNeeds volunteersâ column on our volunteering Trello board (https://trello.com/b/C8vPpwJD/cat-volunteering) .

World economy set to lose up to 18% GDP from climate change if no action taken, reveals Swiss Re Institute’s stress-test analysis | Swiss Re (https://www.swissre.com/media/news-releases/nr-20210422-economics-of-climate-change-risks.html) Climate change poses the biggest long-term threat to the global economy. If no mitigating action is taken, global temperatures could rise by more than 3°C and the world economy could shrink by 18% in the next 30 years. But the impact can be lessened if decisive action is taken to meet the targets set in the Paris Agreement, Swiss Re Instituteâs new Climate Economics Index shows. This will require more than what is pledged today; public and private sectors will play a crucial role in accelerating the transition to net zero.
