Hey CATs!
Here comes your weekly CAT update.
ð Itâs understandable, with repeating rolling news coverage of COVID, the BLM protests, and climate news to want to block out the reminders that weâre in an unjust world. Itâs worth remembering though, that climate change and existing inequalities are intrinsically linked â not everyone gets to block them out, and you donât need to look far, even at high profile companies in our sector to see who this impacts first.
Weâve been compiling a bunch of resources on the links of climate change, race, and justice in #d-antiracism (https://climate-tech.slack.com/archives/C015F2UEAKG) , and itâs important to remember that (even though the phrase is often used) weâre not all in this together. Some of us are more in this than others.
Weâre currently in the process of refreshing our community guidelines and we want to make sure that we can get input from you folks who are having to fight a harder fight, and make this a welcoming place, regardless of where in the world youâre coming from, your gender or skin tone. If you are able to contribute a couple of hours over September, please join us in #d-community-guidelines (https://climate-tech.slack.com/archives/C018HDZHAMS) as we update them. If you prefer to contact privately, you can send a direct message to any of the organizers (@melissa (https://climate-tech.slack.com/team/UF81YNN8K) @mrchrisadams (https://climate-tech.slack.com/team/UCM06DU1K) @asim (https://climate-tech.slack.com/team/UK97Q7B3K) @HeatherB (https://climate-tech.slack.com/team/URD27PJV8) @Sandra (https://climate-tech.slack.com/team/UM9T8D71B) ).

ð August 25, 2020 Ranching has been vilified as a major contributor to climate change. But what if itâs not the cow but the HOW? The fact is, animals have always lived and grazed on grasslands, and when we leverage regenerative grazing to raise livestock, we can rebuild the soil and sequester carbon in the grass and soil, sourcing materials like leather, fiber, and meat in a more responsible way. - Longing for the Endless Immensity of the Sea with Philippe Cousteau Jr. (https://outrageandoptimism.libsyn.com/67-longing-for-the-endless-immensity-of-the-sea-with-philippe-cousteau-jr) ð Aug 28, 2020 One of the often taken-for-granted and overlooked aspects of climate is our oceans. And by oceans, we mean ocean. One. All “oceans” are part of the same system, and they have been absorbing the heat and CO2 that we have been so irresponsibly emitting. But how can we get people to take action on climate, sustained and long-term? Our guest, Philippe Cousteau Jr. believes it all begins when we fall in love with our oceans. Standing on the shoulders of his father, Philippe Sr. and grandfather, Jacques Cousteau, Philippe reaches even further by taking us with him to explore just how endlessly immense the sea is, how much it has loved us, and how much we love it back. India can lead the way towards a green economy (https://www.terra.do/blog) ð August 25, 2020 In this podcast, Chandra Bhushan talks about his climate change journey, what the purpose behind starting iFOREST was, his personal involvement in the District Mineral Foundation, his thoughts about UNFCCC, COPs and the Montreal Protocol in international climate negotiations and how important it is to make a wholesale change to the economic system to tackle climate change. There are regularly days when I am not sure which day of the week it is until itâs time to go to bed. Then there are weeks where Iâm not sure what year it is. This week, as we neared the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, when I saw the devastation from Hurricane Laura, I could not help but be transported back to 2005.
