Dear CATs,
A few weeks ago I (Sandra (https://app.slack.com/team/UM9T8D71B) ) attended a panel discussion titled âClimate Justice: Identity, History and Powerâ. The speakers talked about the 27 principles of climate justice (http://www.ejnet.org/ej/bali.pdf) as documented during the 1992 Earth Summit and how climate change and inequalities are intrinsically linked. They then stressed that we canât solve injustices one at a time. We have to solve them all together.
Which brings me to the fact that Black Lives Matter Is More Than a Trend (https://open.spotify.com/episode/35NFoSRDJGlMNMPJ4QKDAI?si=bZDIapCOT5iBFEJiCYC9mg) (ð link to the latest Yikes Podcast ep). And with Pride Month ð³ï¸âð to I think Iâd like to take today to acknowledge, celebrate and support [see orgs to donate to in the thread] the intersection of the two movements: The Stonewall riots (https://www.stonewall.org.uk/about-us/news/stonewall-uprising-50-years-lgbt-history) marked a turning point for the LGTBQIA+ movement worldwide. Lesbians and trans women of colour were some of the key people involved in the act of resistance (more about Marsha P. Johnson (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsha_P._Johnson) ). At the same time, the Revolutionary Peopleâs Constitutional Convention (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolutionary_People%27s_Constitutional_Convention) became a key moment in history in which activists from Black Power, feminist and gay liberation movements came together, saw common cause and learned from each other.
The climate crisis doesnât take place in a vacuum. Itâs interwoven with our history and the world we live in today. In our next #d-cat-salon (https://climate-tech.slack.com/archives/C0144BR1CSX) discussion we will talk about climate as part of the broader movements happening today.
