Al Munro: AFTER BARCELONA

Al Munro presents expanded paintings that respond to her recent residency at Casa RARO, Barcelona. Munro’s work investigates the interaction of colour, pattern and space in painting. The physical structures of her works are folded and curved, seeking to disturb and activate the typically flat surface of painting.

Wendy Teakel: ENTANGLEMENT

Entanglement explores Wendy Teakel’s enduring interest in the relationships between people, land and the more-than-human world. Informed by Donna J. Haraway’s idea of living within nature, Teakel moves between the microscopic life of soil and the geometry of paddocks, imagining pastures as living quilts and carpets. Through drawing and pokerwork, she reflects on the resilience and vulnerability of cultivated land.

Claire Fletcher: ALL EYES ON ME

Claire Fletcher’s All Eyes on Me is a four-panel geometric abstract painting composed of impossible shapes that plays the material flatness of paint on board against the illusion of ambiguous deep space. All Eyes on Me is about the act of painting itself.

RONA GREEN: ODD BODS

Rona Green’s window exhibition of hand coloured linocuts continues this week. She is known for her peculiar figurative printmaking that depicts outsiders, misfits and loners who embody our paradoxical want to run with the pack yet maintain our individuality.

Green is interested in how identity is expressed via the body and the ways it can be altered, the skin and its potential to be the stem point for transformation, and how the body can be a vehicle for story by means of transformative devices, particularly anthropomorphism and body decoration.

Rona Green, Dusty Rhodes

Since the early 1990s Green has exhibited extensively in Australia and internationally. She has received accolades for her printmaking including the Silk Cut Award Grand Prize, Swan Hill Print Award and Geelong Print Prize. Her work is represented in over 70 public collections including the National Gallery of Australia.

Rona Green lives and works in Melbourne. She is represented by Australian Galleries in Melbourne and Sydney, and Penny Contemporary in Hobart.
