Hello. 2015!
Hello,
I hope this note finds you well. I wanted to let you know about a couple of releases that went up on January and February 1st and a tape going live on March 1st.
On New Years day I released "Childhood (part 1)" which is a short EP that I recorded back in 2013. It was slated for a group project release that ended up not happening. I felt that Childhood should start out a new year just as it starts out a new life. It was mastered by the wonderful Andrew Weathers and is mostly guitar abstractions. The cover photo was done my wife from a trip to NYC that we took earlier in 2014.
Just yesterday while my city was getting blanketed with 20inches of snow I released a split with my friend Jason Olexa who makes wonderful dense drone music under the name dustperiod. The split is called "Sometimes I Hear Voices / Trying to Make Impermanent Things Permanent" Some of you may have noticed that I talked about releasing "Sometimes I Hear Voices" in the last 3 of these updates. I hesitated mostly because this release is really not like most of what I've released. Originally, these were noise loops and experiments in heavy processing where I started to think I heard peoples voices, even though I didn't record any one talking. I worked on finding more examples in my archives of recordings and compiled the initial tracks. While I enjoyed them I felt they missed something, so I set them on the shelf for a while. This is where Mr. Olexa comes in and conversations we had about his working process, mostly about feeding and re-feeding recordings through tape distortion until everything was a wash. Going back to these tracks with that in mind I finally got these tracks to the level of noise abstraction that I knew they wanted to be. Jason's side "Trying to Make Impermanent Things Permanent" of dense spacey noise tracks paired nicely and over some beers we decided we should release these two together. If you like his half please know there is more of where that came from on his bandcamp.
These two releases are both free/PWYW and I hope you enjoy and share them.
Coming March 1st I am going to release a cassette called "Worry". Its 2, ~20min long tracks, one that I've worked on for over a year and one that I started on my 36 birthday last year. The tape was mastered by Joe Panzner who mastered my "A house once lived..." (which made A Closer Listen top 10 Ambient 2014). The tape was pro-dubbed by National Audio in a run of 50. The first 10 will come wrapped in a black painting. (This will make more sense when I finish the video for the A-side track, trust me). For now I've made a video for the B-side song "A light crack in the wall". Please share that around. Here's the artwork.
That's all for now I think. Be warned that i hope to have some new stuff up on the 1st of April and May too. More on that next time. Cheers
Cinchel
