decades

The start of a new year seems to be the time to both think about the past and make plans for the future.  I think about time a lot. In fact my last email to y'all was about time, and was sent almost a year ago today!
At some point last year I was reminded that  drone.dump came out in 2010. It was the first thing I ever released and it was on my friend's new tape label 'Spective Audio (the label is done now but he writes about music here.) I remember being excited. I remember making a large painting that i cut up into pieces that became the 50 j-cards for the run of tapes. He and I sat at a coffee shop near my apartment and put the tapes together. It was warm out. I remember thinking that I would use this as a reason to try and play out more. Over the course of the next 10 years I met so many terrific sound makers, both in person and on the internet. A whole amazing community. I Played a lot of fun shows, started new projects , collaborated with someone on the other side of the planet.

I was thinking I should do something to commemorate all of this. So I'm heading into ESS to rerecord this album. I'm not going to call it drone.dump II.  Over the past 10 years I have tried to move away from the pragmatic titles to abstract story telling titles. I haven't decided yet on a title.

The original was recorded in my hall closet in an apartment we had in 2008/2009. It mostly focuses on me trying to play the guitar as little as possible and use the vibration of the amp to get the guitar to harmonically resonate. Instead of plucking many strings, I would chose one and then adjust the tuning of the other strings so that they would vibrate on their own. It was a tough balancing act of subtly and well trying not to get evicted. Going to ESS will make both of those things easier. To up the ante I'm going to use 4 guitars and 4 amps, with each guitar sitting on a amp that its not plugged into. Additionally, I'm bringing 4-ebows that I will place on 4 strings of the piano. Vibrate all the stings!

the guitars...
and the very minimal pedal setup. Basically, a delay on each guitar just to give it a little more help.

If you're bored on tuesday check my instagram, I'll probably post some videos of the process to my story.

Other future things.
I'll have a split tape coming out on TC5 soon. My contribution is more of the synthy stuff I was playing around with last year. The other side will be something awesome from Nystada.

Working on a some kind of art/music collaboration with this wonderful artist Muteneighbor

Thinking about making a 4-cassette release using the recording of Walking into an unfamiliar place...

and probably 1 or 2 other things. Lets see how this year goes.
Day to day I get bogged down with time, it really bums me out.

thanks for listening
