Cinchel - Fall 2013 Update

Hello Everyone,

I didn't expect to really have anything to tell you this late in the year but a few exciting things have popped up that I thought some of you might be interested in. As always feel free to unsubscribe if these tri-anual updates are too much to bear.

First up, I wanted to let you know that some of my music has been selected to be used in a full length film called "Still".  "Still" is a unique psychological thriller inspired by such female-centric 70s films as "Images," "Season of the Witch," "Le Orme," "Neither the Sea Nor the Sand," and "Let's Scare Jessica to Death." Written and directed by Jason Coffman, this independent film is shooting Fall/Winter 2013. The film is currently running a kickstarter project to get enough funds to finish up filming and post-production. Head over to the kickstarter page to see the trailer which uses one of my pieces to soundtrack the second half. If you are so inclined, there is a backer lever where I will make you a hand painted and wax sealed case for 2xCDr. One of "isolation experiments vol. 1" from earlier this year and one of my next release "A House Once Lived, Loved". More information on that below.

Since we last spoke I uploaded a new EP to the bandcamp site. "quiet nights, lonesome woods" is seriously dark and contains no guitars. Beach Sloth wrote "Intricate patterns and overall weirdness help to keep it so compelling. Rhythm almost appears to form but cinchel uses the rhythm as a melody, akin to a long lost Autechre or Phoenicia track."

Now a few end of the year shows:

Nov 10th, 8pm, $5,  1330 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago.  Buio Omega  (Facebook ) Alan will read a selection of his own monologues as well as one by director Christophe Honor, each with different music accompaniment: Cinchel, Adam Lukas (from Pink Frost), Miles Doornbos (from Chaperone) and Brant Hewelt. We know its a Sunday evening but we promise to be prompt and get you home early for that Monday work day. The Den has a full bar so feel free to come early and hangout. Its a really neat space!

Nov 16th, 7pm, Free, Comfort Station, 2579 N. Milwaukee Ave.

I've been asked to soundtrack a meditation session. Bring your pillows, yoga mats, whatever you need to be comfortable. This is a monthly event and I am honored to participate. A second act is TBA but recent sessions have included modular synths and guitars. Comfort Station is a turn-of-the-century structure turned multidisciplinary arts space in the heart of Chicago’s Logan Square.

Dec 6th, 8pm, $10/$8 students/members, Experimental Sound Studio, 5925 North Ravenswood Ave

Toward the end of August, Experimental Sound Studio put out an open call for proposals for single evening performances. Out of 40 submissions, I was one of 8 selected. The series of four shows are spread out over the month of November and early December. The whole line-up is quite spectacular  and I am honored to be in such great company. Not only will this performance be quintaphonic (5 guitar amps/PA speakers surrounding the audience) I will also have a selection of bells spread among the seats. The audience is encouraged to ring the bells at any points during the performance. Feel free to bring your own bells like these. The whole thing will be recorded by the excellent staff of ESS and I will work on making some kind of release from it. Attendees are guaranteed a free download, just make sure I have your email address.

Thanks for getting this far in the update. As a reward you can head over to soundclound and check out a few things I am working on. I've received the mastered files from Joe Panzner for my next release "A House Once Lived, Loved" and uploaded one of them to soundcloud along with 2 of the earlier unmastered demos. Look for that to be released with a small photo book that my wife and I will work on in the coming months. I hope to have it out mid-spring 2014. I am also working on a release called "I Think I'm Hearing Voices". I'm hoping to finish that up early 2014 as well for a digital only (maybe small run CDr as well) release.

Thank you again for all your support. Have a great Autumn

Cinchel
