Brief update and introduction
Hello Everyone,
First let me introduce you to the more formal and "professional" newsletter. I've decided to move away from an address list in my Gmail to this wonderful service called Tinyletter. This makes the process of keeping track of who wants to receive these updates much easier. You've been added to this list if you bought or downloaded something from my bandcamp page ( http://cinchel.bandcamp.com ). Please feel free to unsubscribe via the link at the bottom of this update.
Now the quick update.
First up, if you are in Chicago this Friday (May 10th) I am participating in ASCII 4. More information about ASCII can be found here http://www.archeospiritist.com/ . A number of great artists are participating and some are preparing short live reveries for the event. I am going to do a live remix of the 10 minute long track I've written especially for the event. In addition I will ask the audience to stream audio from http://ascii.cinchel.com during the performance for added effect. There will (hopefully) be a video projected as well, collaged from videos I've found on the archive.org Prelinger Archives ( http://archive.org/details/prelinger ). Its at Elastic Arts Foundation at 2830 N. Milwaukee Ave (above the wonderful Chinese restaurant Friendship) starting at 7pm. Most importantly it's FREE!
More information can be found here http://elasticarts.org/ascii-4-elegance-and-artifacts/ and here (facebook) https://www.facebook.com/events/521204464590203
New music!
Apologies if some of this is a repeat (see this is why I need tinyletter so i can see what I've already told you all) but I believe since we last spoke I've had a few new releases.
First a new tape on the Chicago tape label Notes and Bolts ( http://www.notesandbolts.net/ ). The tape is called "Sometimes You See Yourself (through the cosmos)" and is 60min of drone composed from a wine glass and guitar. You can hear/buy it here: http://cinchel.bandcamp.com/album/sometimes-you-see-yourself-through-the-cosmos
In January I was invited into the studio of Northwestern University (NU) radio station WNUR to play a live set for their Airplay show ( http://wnurairplay.org/ ). I took their recording of the set and the loops I saved during the performance and made an EP out of it. It's called "isolation experiments vol 1" and you can hear that here: http://cinchel.bandcamp.com/album/isolation-experiments-vol-1
To celebrate the wonderful occasion known as Record Store Day I was asked to played a short set at the wonderful Lauries' Planet of Sound in the Lincoln Square neighborhood of Chicago. ( http://lauriesplanetofsound.com/ ). My excellent friend Sei-Jin Lee captured the first part of the set on video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m83QY3IDe5U . In the spirit of the day I made a short EP that I gave free to anyone that purchased an LP or tape from me. Its called "Diamond in the Rough" and you can hear that here: http://cinchel.bandcamp.com/album/diamond-in-the-rough
Thanks for your time. I promise at least 3 months before the next update.
