Chronosasis 0 RETRO + 00 open call

rather a lot has happened since September 27th, 2024, and I’ve considered shelving this email, the whole series, throwing my laptop into the sea — on more than one occasion
but then there’s no better time to gather in living rooms, kitchens, studios, third places, and try to make the world a slightly brighter place together, is there?
here’s a recap of last fall’s inaugural edition, coupled with some teasers of what’s to come
the recap
Essential Abstractions started the night off strong by transporting us to the 1992 Artificial Intelligence living room with a full hour of original material, with isthisanart on the visuals
you can catch a similar, yet different recording, a yet-again-different performance clip, or a sample of the visuals
yours truly held down the middle with perhaps the most conventional “listening party” set of the evening

we’re just going to say that “everyone was too transfixed to take photos” and “the ephemeral nature of embodied experience triumphed over documentation” rather than “I forgot to hit record”, but here’s a tracklist:
Mai Mai Mai - μάγοις / Magois (2016)
Art of Noise - How To Kill (1986)
E. A. R. - Ring Modulator (1997?)
Dick Raaymakers and Tom Dissevelt - Syncopation (1958)
Alvin Lucier & The Brandeis University Chamber Chorus - Sound Patterns (1967)
Bernard Parmegiani - Rouge-Mort [exerpt] (1987)
Madjid Khaladj - Lâ Ilâha Ill' Allâh / There Is No Other God Than God (1999)
Ian Xenakis (perf. Chen Yung-Cheng) - Rebonds B (2012)
Morton Subotnick - A Sky of Cloudless Sulphur: II. Dance (1978)
Swan Meat & Yoshitaka Hikawa ft. Ssaliva - Nightmare Aftercare (2017)
Montague The Magnificent - Theme (1950s)
Return to Forever - The Magician (1976)
you can find some (old, embarrassing) mixes on my soundcloud
cეcე teased us with a “will they, won’t they” all night before delivering a staggering journey of deletion and reconstitution that’s hard to put into words

this one was a you-had-to-be-there (for multiple reasons) but you can catch a safe excerpt on their site
the what’s to come
the 00 edition is coming together for mid-spring and we’re looking for participants: do you have some really weird records that scare your friends? an ambient side project you haven’t told anyone about? a conceptual piece that you need some pressure to finish? reply to this email
00 may or may not be the last time we can fit everyone into my living room, so if you want the Ohm Walsh F experience this might be the time
you should go see our friends play at kwia tonight, Jan 30th
