Issue 14 - Repaganizing and Moral Equivalence

Happy Saturday everyone. In this issue I’m only including a couple of links because the first one is pretty long. I’ll be back in two weeks with some new, longer-form material. In the meantime, I hope these links prove interesting and thought provoking.

  • There is a growing understanding among secular thinkers that whether or not one believes in Christianity, many of the values we take for granted are directly derived from Christian belief (historian Tom Holland wrote an entire book, “Dominion,” on this topic, which I commend to you). Louise Perry is a non-Christian who recently wrote a book-length denunciation of the sexual revolution.  In this lengthy essay, she reflects on what we lose as we abandon a Christian foundation and revert to pagan roots.

  • One common belief among many Christians (one that I held for a long time until fairly recently) is that “all sin is the same.” This is true in the sense that any sin, no matter how small, serves to separate us from God. However, the idea that all sin is equally evil is not actually Biblical.
