Issue 10 - Happy Independence Day

Wishing everyone a Happy Fourth of July next week. Today’s issue will be a bit different format than the first few, but one of my original visions for this newsletter was to simply share readings and resources I found useful or interesting. Thus, while longer essays on uniform topics will definitely continue to feature here, some newsletters will instead point you to other readings. In that spirit, here’s a few links to consider.

  • In celebration of Independence Day here’s a series of blurbs by a diverse group of Americans on why they love America.

  • A resource I have found helpful: 18 prayers to pray for unbelievers

  • An encouraging essay about the process of sanctification.

As a final thought heading into the Fourth of July, here’s Jeremiah’s exhortation to the Jewish exiles in Babylon - fitting words for believers living in exile in the kingdoms of the world.

4 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: 5 “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. 6 Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. 7 Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.

While we never put our ultimate hope and love in the kingdoms of this world, may we as Christians continue to seek the peace and prosperity of the nations in which God has placed us, and lift them up to the Lord.
