Hey curious creatures,
Spring has (finally, sort of, maybe) arrived in NYC. It’s so glorious, sun shining, toes in dirt, snowdrops pushing their way through the detritus of our harshest winter in a while. Time, too, for emerging from our hibernations. Don’t let today’s snow down you; fun things ahead!

This piece, Ritual for Roaches (2026), is featured in a show taking place at 3rd Story Gallery in Bushwick. Lots of explorations of the urban, the ecological, and the urban ecological, curated by the vibrant eyes of Eliot and Izzy - check it out, viewable by appt, or come by on Sunday 3/15 at 2:30pm for a guided ritual~. Offer a spoonful of cockroach brew to our friends!
The culinary and interspecies collide with Kelptropolis, coming to Index Greenpoint on March 21st and (soon to be added!) March 22nd. It will be a delightful foray into the waters surrounding Sakhalin Island, many thousands of kilometers away! How might food transport us not only to this far-off place, but the interspecies worlds of kelp forests, deep sea diving, and cultural whirlpools that characterize it? And huge thank you to my dear friend Mischa for introducing that world!

I’ve always wondered what other creatures think about the Spring and Fall Equinox. Do they even notice? Do the feel the balance of the poles, do their bones yearn for the lengthening of the days? Anyways, come join this silly and also serious ritual to honor the Spring Equinox — we’ll be tapping into the balance-abilities of birds and squirrels as well as the sun-sympathy of spring ephemera. Bring your tallest things (stepladder, stilettos, stilts, etc) and your balance-buddies (slackline, exercise ball, roller skates). Plus, a collaborative curse we’ll place on Equinox the fitness chain for sullying the name of such a sacred day with the greasy touch of luxury consumption.

Consumption Book Club had a delightful second outing, reading Paradise Rot by Jenny Hval and getting into our stinky crushes while twisting and baking sourdough pretzels. Up next we’ll be reading one of my personal favorite books, Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer. In the process we’ll explore generative art-making practices and strange chimeric transformations. Follow the link to join the CBC newsletter and be the first to hear and sign up for our next gathering. Thank you to Colette (who harkens back to the Creatures days!) for being such a generous collaborator in this practice.
Emerging into the spring also means new chimeric gatherings. April will bring some special forays into the teeming world of urban ecology, with a fun collaboration to bring them to life. And maybe even a bicoastal (San Francisco) offering or two? Collaboration is chimeric!
yours in daffodil sprouts,
♥ kyle
