Vitreous and soft-blob physics
I have a new generative art collection coming out! It’s called Vitreous and it’s inspired by my fused glass work. The collection is part of a Feral File group exhibition called Truth curated by Adam Berninger. All 128 curated pieces are on display now and will be available to purchase in a dutch auction on October 19th.
On Feral File all artworks are sold in sets, so if you want to buy a Vitreous NFT you’ll be purchasing a collection of 7 pieces - one from each exhibiting artist. I think it’s really cool concept to have this shared responsibility, and nice that we were able to curate some themed sets. Each collection is really special, here are a few of my favourites from across the exhibition:
Cunieform #83, Dactylogram #61, Metamosaic #13
Of course when I release work I have to complete the loop by writing complex technical articles with lots of demos (this is what happens when you no longer have and eng team to give talks to); I have two sequential deep-dive topics based on this project, here is the first:
Soft-blob physics
A journey of how I made the glass shapes (at least the 2D version) featuring some of the gen art heavy hitters - Voronoi, poisson-disk sampling, and springs!
In personal news… it’s been a rough few weeks. My income protection insurance case is with the financial ombudsman, and although the other week they upheld my complaint it’s likely the insurers will ask for a final decision which will drag the whole thing out for possibly years, and it may ultimately be overturned.
I spent a lot of the early summer slowly building a kitchen - having a ‘yes man’ partner and my stubborn determination to do everything means that after looking at a few astronomical quotes I hired a workshop and bought a lot of woodworking equipment and we’re building our kitchen from scratch ourselves. Unfortunately the building company who were totally gutting our house and doing a loft renovation got sloppy and slow and then absent, we’ve been trailed along for months and now know that they’ve gone into administration. I poured every pound I had into that project and now it’s gone (almost definitely irrecoverably), and we’re left with a house that isn’t even weatherproof and will take an awful lot of money to put to rights. We are going to be okay for a couple of months and I can use some of my savings earmarked for tax to get a roof on the house, but it’s pretty scary looking ahead when I don’t have any income and my health is still very poor. We’re young and bright and privileged so we’ll be fine in the long-term, but at the moment it is very painful and scary. I’m just going to keep plugging away at making art when I can and hope that everything will work out.
Sorry for the newsletter therapy session, it’s just so hard to smile and say I’m doing well when I’m not. This exhibition with Feral File has been a lovely distraction, and so fulfilling to take a small project from nothing to completion in a couple of months, even though I was flat out in bed for most of it. I really hope you like the pieces. Next I’m going to get back to finishing the pasta project and I’m trying to set up a print shop, you’ll be the first to know!
Have a lovely weekend,
Charlotte ✨
