Handwriting with the Canvas API
Hello! It's been 5 weeks since Ceramics came out and I've been laying pretty low. I was blown away by the reception to the project and I'm really proud of the outputs, but building up to such a big launch made me really crash afterwards. I've barely been able to pick up my laptop since then, which is extra frustrating given how motivated I am to explore something new! Anyway, at least I'm able to do a bit now.
Handwriting with the Canvas API
This is the fourth deep-dive article on the tech behind Ceramics, this time delving into how I made the little numbering system in the bottom-right of the mints, and generally about techniques for using typography in generative art.
I have two more extra-technical articles in the works about Ceramics, then I'll be moving on to other things. Because you're extra special secret newsletter subscribers I'll let you know what they are:
In the article above I mentioned the metal counterpart to Ceramics. I decided to continue with the clay-based outputs because I thought they had more variability (basically colour), but the metal ones had a very different feel and I want to explore it more. One of my big regrets in Ceramics is not being able to make true physicals of them (due to my health, and how fickle pottery is anyway), but for the metal ones I'm going to start with the physicals first. TLDR; I've bought a CNC and can't wait to play with it. I'm hoping I can do an IRL exhibition of these pieces but it's very early days.
I'm also getting back into making generative pasta. I've got the bones of the algorithm all done but there's a lot to do in terms of colouring and composition. I'm hoping to release this as a long-form collection in the summer. Here are some WIPs!
I'm open to any and all feedback on these. Follow me on Twitter to see more as I post them.
