D(e)ad Reviews!
“so funny and hard hitting at the same time”
“D(e)AD is a genuinely funny and well written movie.
As someone who is also estranged from their alcoholic parent, the script really nailed the absolute clusterfuck of feelings that comes from being the one close family member to truly cut ties. I could see myself in Tillie in multiple ways, and I really appreciated getting the opportunity to watch someone else also deal with these complicated feelings, in ways that managed to both be very real but also still very funny. Everyone in the audience was genuinely laughing out loud nearly the entire time, and ngl I shed a couple tears as well.”
“I expected to laugh but I didn't expect to cry and feel so seen and wholly represented as someone who is estranged from their parents in a family of people who aren't. It was an unflinching look in the mirror with all the imperfections and dark humor of being deep in complicated grief and a portrait of what being seen and loved by your family can look like in form and content. Grateful this film exists.”
