Sustainability Update

Sustainable Centre Region Email Header.png

I have a goal of delivering a quarterly newsletter, but the pursuit of that perfect newsletter has led to my procrastination in sending any news. Bare with me as I work towards creating a timely and interesting newsletter.

Highlights of local government actions:

  • The Centre Region was chosen as one of 8 finalist in competition for a $1M Climate Action Grant. A group of area housing partners led by The HOME Foundation and Centre Region COG propose the creation of the Regional Energy+ Program which will use the money to broaden energy efficiency efforts in affordable housing throughout the region.

  • The Centre Region COG received Silver Solsmart designation in July for making it faster, easier, and more affordable for homes and businesses to go solar.

  • Sustainable Centre Region was a proud partner of the first Growing Greener Garden Tour, a one-day event in July designed to showcase habitat-friendly landscaping practices.

  • On October 3rd COG with its regional partners hosted a Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) education event at Big Springs Spirits. We heard from companies benefitting from using this low cost, flexible financial tool for large clean energy projects.

  • On October 19th proposals will be received by a group of 15 local government organizations interested in a solar power purchase agreement for a portion of their electricity needs.

What can you do to support sustainability?

  • Host a Community Climate Action Conversation. We have a kit with everything you need to conduct a conversation about climate action (available for virtual or in person settings). Help set community priorities.

  • Organize your book club to check out Schlow Library's All We Can Save Book Discussion Kit. It includes 7 books and a guide for discussion.

  • Check out our Go Solar website at https://bit.ly/gosolarcr.

  • More to come on this topic, but in the mean time visit the White House's Clean Energy for All webpage to learn about the new tax credits and rebates for families.

  • Share this email with a friend and follow us @centreregionalplanning on FB and IG.
