I hope you are enjoying this beautiful fall weather. We have a fun event coming up and many exciting updates for you.

Events

Sustainable Centre County Happy Hour: October 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Boal City Brewing in Boalsburg. Join with and learn from your neighbors about sustainability in Centre County!  Registration and Event Info

Local government activity:

  • State College Borough is in the process of developing its Next Gen Connectivity and Mobility Plan. If you go downtown, please visit this website to provide input on the proposed solutions.

    • Coming next newsletter - information on the development of Centre County's Active Transportation Plan

  • The Solar Power Purchase Agreement Working Group is working towards getting contracts signed but the process is taking longer than anticipated. Legal review is more complicated as we are leading the way with this many participants in a PPA; it is unprecedented. The 13 governmental organizations are expecting to allocate around 20MWh of electricity to the solar array in late 2025.

  • The GET Solar Centre Region Program hosted 3 webinars for businesses and non-profits to learn about the benefits of solar and how this program can provide free technical assistance. We've had several organizations express interest. This program is open until October 20th so please share with businesses and organizations you know.

  • Sustainability efforts, such as a focus on energy efficiency, can help make our homes more affordable. In July the Federal Reserve Bank President visited State College to learn about the progress being made here to address affordable housing issues.

What can you do to support sustainability?

  • Visit Go Solar in the Centre Region to learn about the steps involved when installing solar.

  • Visit First Energy's Choose EV website to learn about the benefits and considerations of an electric vehicle.

  • Visit Energy Star's Heat Pump Water Heater website if your water heater is 10+ years old. There is a 30% tax credit and $500 West Penn Power rebate available.

  • WTAJ's story on the GET Solar Centre Region program

  • Host a Community Climate Action Conversation. We have a kit with everything you need to conduct a conversation about climate action (available for virtual or in person settings). Help set community priorities.
