Sustainability 2024

Have you noticed? We’ve updated our name to Centre Sustains. Same look and mission, it just rolls off the tongue easier than Sustainable Centre Region.
Events
May 18 @11am-1pm Centre County Solar Tour
We are partnering with Solar United Neighbors (SUN) to host a Solar Tour on May 18. See solar up close, ask questions about how solar works, learn why homes in your community are going solar, and connect with your neighbors!
There are 8 solar homeowners participating in the tour, spread out across State College, Bellefonte, Port Matilda, and Centre Hall. Visitors have the chance to stop by one or several of the solar-powered homes, each coupled with an electric or hybrid vehicle and other unique technologies. More details will be shared upon registering for the event.

Local government activity:
The development of Centre County's Active Transportation Plan (ATP) is in process. Today is the last day to complete the survey and provide comments and ideas on an interactive map. Visit the ATP Engagement Page to let us know where you want safer and more connections for sidewalks, intersections, and bike paths.
With the help of the GET Solar Program the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority plans to install a 791.5-kilowatt solar system over three separate buildings by the end of the year. This solar project will offset more than 100% of the facility’s annual energy usage and save them nearly $2 million over the next 25 years. Read the press release to learn more.
The Power Purchase Agreement is nearing the finish line and the approval process is expected early this summer. The 11 governmental organizations are expecting to allocate around 20MWh of electricity to a solar array being built in Walker Township by a developer in 2026.
We are one of the partners working with Solar United Neighbors to bring you the Centre County Solar and EV Charger Co-op! It’s free to join and there is no obligation to purchase solar. By joining, you’ll learn how solar works and what it takes to go solar. Then, you’ll have the opportunity to go solar at the group rate, alongside your neighbors!
