We are excited to share that we are almost to 1,000 subscribers of this newsletter. It is great to see the interest and support for sustainability in our community.

Highlights of local government activity:

  • The Solar Power Purchase Agreement Working Group has selected one solar developer that has four potential solar projects in PA and contracts are under legal review. Thirteen local government organizations are expecting to allocate around 20MWh of electricity to the solar array in late 2024.

  • The Ferguson Township Public Works Building achieved LEED GOLD certification in February.

  • Sustainable Centre Region was a proud sponsor of the second Growing Greener Garden Tour, a one-day event in June designed to showcase habitat-friendly landscaping practices.

  • We had over 75 people participate in our 3-part energy education series for businesses, non-profits, and local government in partnership with the CBICC. Topics were electric vehicles, solar energy, and energy efficiency.

  • Pam Adams, Sustainability Planner for the Centre Region, traveled to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia May 8 – 22 through the Department of State’s YSEALI Professional Fellows Reciprocal Exchange Program. The project focused on collaboration between universities and local governments related to climate action and sustainability.

  • The Centre Region was just notified that we were selected to participate in the PA Solar Center's GET Solar Communities program, which will provide technical support for businesses, non-profits, and local governments interested in solar.
