when ai becomes your unfair advantage

Newsletter header

Two very different problems. Same lesson.

A CTO joined a startup three weeks ago - 10 engineers to manage, code to ship, C-level decisions to make. He opened Claude Code and said "build me an executive assistant." Now he has 11,579 lines of institutional knowledge. Prep for any meeting in 30 seconds. Claude handles his meeting notes, action items, and even posts to Slack without his team realizing it's AI.

Meanwhile, Mastercard processes 143 billion transactions yearly. Each needs a fraud decision in under 50 milliseconds - faster than you can blink. Their AI now prevents $2+ billion in fraud annually while cutting false positives by 85%. Fewer embarrassed customers. Fewer lost sales. Better than any rule-based system could achieve.

The pattern? Both stopped trying to design perfect systems upfront. They let AI learn from actual context - personal patterns for the CTO, cardholder behavior for Mastercard.

The gap between "using AI" and "AI as unfair advantage" is smaller than you think.

P.S. What's one repetitive task you'd hand to AI if it actually worked? Hit reply - I read every one.
