Hi. I'm PJ, though you may know me as Lacey (they/them). I'm building Denver a mobile queer bookshop called Category Is:. It travels. It carries books by queer authors and books with queer characters. Why? The banning and removal of queer and trans titles from school libraries and public shelves is not slowing down; it is accelerating. For many young queer people, a school or public library was the only place they could find a book that reflected their identity without having to explain themselves. As those shelves are emptied, the need for alternative access grows urgent.

Category Is: exists at that intersection: a for-profit mobile bookshop that reinvests in access. At every event we attend, free books are available. No application, no income verification, no questions. You take what you need.

We want to get queer books into queer hands. We sell, buy back, and give away books that affirm, empower, and reflect queer lives at every age, in every genre, in every available language.

I’m currently crowdfunding to help build inventory, finance a trailer/RV/box truck, start up costs, etc. I’ve filed with the IRS, are registered with the Secretary of State in Colorado, and am working on building the website, social media following, and updating our Bookshop.org storefront.

I’d love to have you join us on this journey. All of the links are available here: https://linktr.ee/categoryisbookshop

Thanks so much in advance for your support, whether monetarily, sharing, following on social media, or donating books, every little bit is super important.
