Helllloooo friends!
I hope you had a great week. Mine was good as I mostly caught up on chores and… played way too much Fortnite. Let’s go!

This week was a nice once since I’m in between jobs, so I was able to catch up on home renovation/cleaning chores, read a little (I’m reading Atomic Habits right now), make some memes, and play the new season of Fortnite.
Also, some podcast episodes came out that I had recorded before!
This week’s sponsor is Sourcegraph! How can you build a following, and a career, with memes? Well, I (Cassidy) jumped on the Sourcegraph podcast with their co-founder and CTO Beyang Liu to talk about why we should consider communication a core skill instead of a soft skill, why you should be a developer advocate or a software engineer (and the dangers of trying to do both at once), and moore.
Check out the podcast episode here!
Sourcegraph makes it easier to find and fix things across all of your code, faster. Onboard to a new codebase, make large-scale refactors, increase efficiency, address security risks, root-cause incidents, and more.
Last week, I had you wrap a present, and boy was it a gift to see some of your responses! Amazing work Ten, Will, Don, Leyan, Ivana, Andrew, Bonnie, Topher, Les, Arun, Ulisses, Miguel, Jorge, and Lucia (who did it with her whole family)!
This week’s question is brought to you by Sourcegraph!
Given a file named merry-christmas.txt
that has a single integer x in it, write a script to generate a Christmas tree with asterisks (*) and output it as happy-holidays.txt
. The tree should have a height of x, and if merry-christmas.txt
is empty, the height should be 25 asterisks tall.
Example (you can be flexible with your output, but this might be helpful for you as a starting point):
// merry-christmas.txt
3
// happy-holidays.txt
