Why (and How) I Write Code With Pencil and Paper
This week was a fun one! I was able to release a few things I’m really excited about, including a joke, and I finished reading the first Mistborn book! It was really awesome, I highly recommend it if you’re into fantasy adventure books.
So first of all, a podcast series that I’ve been working on for a while is officially announced! It’s called the Dev Morning Show (at night) and it’s all about profiling cool people in the tech industry, while making jokes in the process, of course. Here’s the trailer. You can subscribe to it on the YouTube channel (linked with the trailer) or wherever you listen to your podcasts!
Also, this article that I wrote about taking notes was just published, if you’d like to learn more about taking notes on a team and some strategies around it.
And, as always, you can check out the Stack Overflow podcast where we publish episodes… all the time!

Last week, I had you find the longest valid parenthesis string. There were some fun languages used by y’all! Great job Akhil, Lily, Cedric, Muhammad, Robin, Saad, Hazel, Ten, Miguel, Leyan, Chuan (this one still blows my mind), Les, Zoé, Ofoe, Lucien, Vyaas, Amine, and Constant!
This week’s question:
Given a string that represents a markdown table, return a formatted markdown table. A formatted markdown table means that the width of each column is the width of the longest cell in the column.
Example:
Input:
| Syntax | Description |
| --- | ----------- |
| Header | Title |
| Paragraph | Text |
Output:
| Syntax | Description |
| --------- | ----------- |
| Header | Title |
| Paragraph | Text |
