valuing your creative work

Have you seen the hbomberguy video on plagiarism? If not, a quick summary: he spends the bulk of the video outlining incidents of plagiarism on YouTube (primarily one dude in particular) and the rest exploring the psychology of and driving forces behind plagiarism. One quote stood out to me in particular:

"Creative people have trouble recognizing their skills as skills, because eventually they feel like second nature. […]This stuff really is valuable. If it wasn’t, people wouldn’t be stealing it. Creativity doesn’t feel special or unique until you realize people have to plagiarize it."

And here I almost started writing "Now, I'm not saying my work is good enough to be worth stealing..." And isn't that the exact thing he's talking about? When he points out that creative people have trouble recognizing their skills as skills, why am I so quick to assume I'm not on that list?
