I've had my Patreon for coming up on three years now, and it's taught me a lot of things.
Year one I tried focusing on short fiction. I discovered short fiction was perhaps not for me.
Year two I wrote a novella, a retelling of The Secret Garden. That felt a lot more like it was for me.
Year three, this year, I wrote another novella, an adaptation of The Fall of the House of Usher, which also felt like it was for me.
While 2020 was a hellscape that absolutely impacted my writing, it cemented for me three very important things:
- I really do want to write longer-form narratives.
- I really do want to get published.
- I can't do that and Patreon and a full-time job.
Many of you have supported my Patreon for at least part of these last three years. I cannot express enough my gratitude for that. As I've said before, I nearly quit writing a few years ago. It was genuinely the support I've received that has made me not only continue writing, but want to dive back into working towards publication.
The update, for those of you who haven't seen on Patreon, is that I'll be shifting the content there away from new fiction and towards documenting the journey towards professional publication.
