If only there were a shorter way to say that.
I'm in another show! Leo's Requiem by Darius M. Buckley is the piece, presenting as part of a new works festival featuring the graduating Columbia playwright MFAs. Friend Brennan Urbi directing.
I don't want to give too much away but the script is surprising and beautiful and richly musical. I'm playing, I think for the first time, an earnestly kind-hearted man. Limited run, early May, more details and tickets to come.
I saw Patrick Page's one-man Shakespeare pop-history monologue show All the Devils Are Here the other night (thanks Miguel for the ticket). The framing device was maybe broader than my tastes incline, but the monologues were just, ugh, so excellent. I was particularly pleased by the inclusion of a sleeper fave of mine: "I can add colours to the chameleon" from Henry VI Part 3. Page nevertheless failed to dislodge Laurence Olivier's absolutely unhinged pronunciation of chameleon from my mind, alas, alas.
Main takeaway: Allow any given Shakespeare monologue roughly 10% more room to breathe than my standard impulse. Must experiment; to the studio!
Speaking of studios, I'm auditioning for the Actor's Studio in a couple of weeks! My scene partner is Alexandra Acosta, a very groovy actor whom I met when we performed some skits written by 3rd-graders. Acting is a winding path, to be sure.
The first official episode of "Art Workers," my podcast where I interview other working theatre artists about doing the thing, will be releasing soon! I recorded a great test episode earlier this week with my friend Aaron Moore (playing Othello, April 12th-20th, Center at West Park). We had an insightful and delightful chat, except at the end it turned out my recorder hadn't been on. You know, just working out the kinks of home audio production! I have a journalism degree.
Finally, I'm seasoning a wok so I've been cooking a lot of Chinese food. It's good fun, but I keep running out of scallions. I'm heading out to get some more right now.
Bye!
