Noticings 12: A new chapter
February at Careful Industries
The start of 2025 has been a time of change at Careful Trouble.
Until now we’ve been an organisation of two parts - half not-for-profit, half-consultancy - and we’re sad to say that a new year has seen the closure of our not-for-profit arm, Promising Trouble.
From now on we’ll be operating as Careful Industries, with a focus on inclusive innovation and careful AI training and consultancy.
AI 101: Training

We have two ‘AI Impacts 101’ sessions coming up:
Thursday 13th February for freelancers, industry and civil society.
Tuesday 4th March for people working in and with charities, governments and public sector organisations
In this training session we will move beyond the hype to share the environmental and social impacts of AI.
Tickets start at £200.
From Hype to Hope

This month we published “From Hope to Hype: How Networked Neighbourhoods can make innovation work for everyone”.
Commissioned by Phoenix Court, this Green Paper explores the role of social policy in delivering innovation diffusion and adoption.
The UK needs a new approach to innovation that prioritises reducing inequality and building pathways to opportunities for everyone. Social capital is at the heart of innovation, and the recommendations in this Green Paper set out an approach to strengthening that across the UK. Read the paper here.
Promising Trouble

We marked the closure of Promising Trouble with the Community Tech Winter Gathering - gathering 70 community tech practitioners at Battersea Arts Centre in London for a great afternoon of learning and inspiration.
As part of that, we handed over management of the Community Tech community of practice to Dr Matt Dowse at the Centre for Sociodigital Futures, and we’re looking forward to what comes next as the community continues to grow.
