Noticings 11: Goodbye 2024 👋🏽

December at Careful Trouble

As we get ready for the holidays, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on this past year.

We've done so much this year and have so many exciting things to come in 2025 (including our Winter Community Tech Gathering).

Thank you for helping us make Careful Trouble. We look forward to seeing you next year!

2024: A Year of Careful Trouble

Four women standing and facing the camera. From left to right is a woman with curly hair in a denim shirt. Next is a slightly shorter woman, with a pink and white coat, and a full fringe. Next is a woman in a black shirt, black glasses and a buzzcut head. Finally on the far right is a taller woman in a blue and white jacket, with a stripy top underneath. She has curly brunette hair.

To wrap up the year, we looked back at 2024 and wrote up some highlights and learnings, including:

  • Hosting roundtables about Digital Inclusion in the age of AI

  • Publishing research and policy recommendations in time for this year’s election and incoming government

  • Recruiting and working with a board for Promising Trouble (we’re still on the lookout for a Treasurer!)

‘Working Towards an Ustopia’: A Community Tech Justice Practice Lab

A group of 9 people, standing by each others side and smiling at the camera. They are of varying heights, but are all global majority people.

We recently co-hosted a practice day with Siana Bangura, bringing together a small group of tech justice practitioners of Global Majority descent.

Siana co-led a great day to understand what we need from each other to continue it in the new year and beyond. We shared how we’re grappling with the intersections our work sits in and the role of tech in some of the challenges we face (as well as the potential solutions we’re developing).

Siana has shared a great write-up of the day with us, which you can read here.

Community Tech Winter Gathering

Many circles which have lines connected them, creating a connective map of ideas

Begin the new year by meeting new people and sharing your thoughts on the future of community technology at our ‘Community Tech Winter Gathering.’

In one of our first confirmed sessions, we will be Relational Mapping with Free Ice Cream - building a collective understanding of our community, identifying potential collaboration points, and spotting resource gaps. We will also be hearing from Siana Bangura!

🗓 Thurs 30th January

⏲️ 12:30 - 16:30

📍 Battersea Arts Centre, Lavender Hill, London SW11 5TN
